Holy Grail Laser Review in Substance Clinic

Hello po! Frens! Here is the progress report, my fourth session of Holy Grail Laser (Spectra Laser) done last month, November, in Substance Laser and Skin Care located at the Third Level of Robinson's Galleria.

Holy Grail Laser Review in Substance Clinic

As I am approaching, I can't help but be impressed at how classy and elegant the clinic of Substance is... Fit for your refined aesthetics taste...

Holy Grail Laser (Spectra Laser) in Substance Laser and Skin Care at the Third Level of Robinson's Galleria.

I wanted to try the Hollywood Peel. It is almost the same as the Holy Grail Laser except that there is CARBON applied all over the face prior to laser, but I was told I cannot change since I am on the Holy Grail already.

Hollywood Peel

Now here I am laying comfortably while awaiting the treatment. Since the dermatologist is on maternity leave, the skin technician handled the procedure. But no worries, she is well-trained.

First off, she cleansed my skin, covered my eyes, then laser proper (she tried 3 settings; adjusting to my skin needs/checking for reaction), finally, she applied antibiotic and sunblock. Note that she took my pictures before and after undergoing the treatment.

She is also very knowledgeable and was able to answer my queries and give sound advice.

laser clinic philippines

Experience on Holy Grail laser:

  • Sound? Yes. Machine is not silent.
  • There's a continuous sound beeping like armalite but at low volume.
  • I hear popping / crackling especially on areas with pigmentation.
  • Does it hurt? No. Actual laser beam feels like a pitik.
  • I can smell some burning.

Here is the video of a mini tour of the clinic, plus complete Holy Grail procedure in detail:

Beautiful, soft, glowing skin, and the facial fuzz is bleached. The pigmentation caused by acne and the sun becomes  lighter. Even after a few days, there is no unsightly peeling.

Another good thing is I can stroll or attend events after. Usually after having a facial my face is red, but with Holy Grail laser, no.

top beauty blogger philippines

Now I still have what is called the ice pick scars, but they are slightly improving. I suppose I need fractional CO2 laser to diminish them. But the problem with that one is it is invasive, with downtime, leaves grid scars and maglalangib ang balat after. So for now I am okay with Holy Grail Laser.

Not just us beauty bloggers who are constantly on social media, but I believe everyone, need to take good care of and invest on their skin. It is not a luxury, but a necessity.

Mylan and HSP Launch BEATHepC

Hello po! With around 1% of the estimated 100 million Filipinos having chronic hepatitis C, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, Mylan, together with the Hepatology Society of the Philippines (HSP) initiated a timely awareness campaign.

Mylan and HSP Launch BEATHepC

Held last November 8, 2018 at the Discovery Suites in Pasig, the BEATHepC (Become Educated, Aware, Tested & Treated) campaign aims to spread awareness about the disease by means of information dissemination through pamphlets and promoting screening among Pinoys at risk.

 Stand-Up Comedian Alex Calleja
Stand-Up Comedian Alex Calleja provides comedic relief before the serious talks.

Now this is my first time to hear about the pharmaceutical company MYLAN as it is not a household name in the Philippines yet. As it turns out, Mylan is a global healthcare company focused on making high quality medicines available to patients who need them.

Founded in the United States of America in 1961, it is a leading manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals. Globally, they have more than 7,500 marketed products.

Mylan is a leader in making medications that addresses a range of health concerns facing Americans which include:
Alzheimer's disease, Autoimmune disorders, Cancer, Diabetes, Heart disease, Thyroid disorders.

The Hepatology Society of the Philippines is a non-governmental organization. It is the only liver society recognized by the Philippine Medical Association, Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Society of Gastroenterology and Philippine Society of Digestive Endoscopy.

HPS is committed to:

  • Provide and promote comprehensive information to the public and to the medical community.
  • Promote research to advance the field of hepatology to provide relevant care to patients.
  • Collaborate with the government in formulating in liver related health policies.
  • Share information, services and expertise with the global community towards the prevention and treatment of liver diseases.

Actor Michael de Mesa shares about his personal scary experience with this communicable disease. He looks back at how he might have gotten it, the suffering and how expensive the medications were.

Hepatitis C is a viral infection that causes liver inflammation, sometimes leading to serious liver damage such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.

One may be at risk for Hepatitis if:

  • You have unprotected / unsafe sex
  • You share needles
  • You had blood transfusion before 1995
  • You have helping hand for grooming sessions (ehem facial, mani-pedi)
  • You have tattoo
  • You are undergoing hemodialysis

The Hepatology Society of the Philippines is a non-governmental organization.

The Department of Health (DoH) estimates that around 1% of the Filipino population has chronic hepatitis C 1 . According to the 2010 study on Global Burden of Disease by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, viral hepatitis causes 1 million deaths each year in the Asia Pacific region.

Hepatitis C is endemic in the Philippines and there is a lack of awareness about viral hepatitis and its transmission, prevention, screening, and management among patients, public, and healthcare providers.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Jade Jamias, Liver Specialist and President of HSP said,
“Chronic Hepatitis C infection may lead to serious complications such as cirrhosis and/or liver cancer. Patients with hepatitis C often do not show early symptoms and so it becomes very critical to educate the people about this infection. Early detection is key to treatment and prevention of liver disease  progression. The positive news is that treatment for this disease is now easily accessible to all.”

Ms. Ester Tacanay, Country Manager of Mylan in Philippines said,
“Hepatitis C is a chronic public health concern in the Philippines. At Mylan Philippines we are committed to provide access to medicine for treatment of hepatitis C with the objective of reducing the disease burden. Through the BEATHepC campaign Mylan aims to create awareness around risks and misconceptions about the disease and encourage early screening and treatment to prevent the disease. We are happy to partner with HSP to drive this campaign across Philippines.”

Mylan’s BEATHepC campaign supports the National Viral Hepatitis Task Force (NVHTF) 2 to
eliminate or significantly decrease the prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C in the Philippines.

Sylviahera Streaming This Christmas at Casa Nieves TV!

Last December 20, 2018 afternoon saw this blogger attend an intimate get-together with one of the best actresses of the Philippines, Sylvia Sanchez.

Sylviahera Streaming This Christmas at Casa Nieves TV!

The impromptu meeting was supposed to be held at her home at White Plains but had to be moved in a cafe in Promenade, Greenhills due to unforeseen circumstance. Sayang, her kitchen was said to look like an International Shopping Center due to her penchant for buying stuff!

Sylvia always made an impression on me as a doting mom, thanks to shows like Hanggang Saan, The Greatest Love, among others. She is the mother of Arjo, Ria (who are now following in her footsteps in showbiz), Gela and Xavi.

First to arrive was the very cheerful and friendly director, Dante Nico Garcia, fresh from Palawan. Then came her Manager, Ms. Anna.

I was awestruck to see Sylvia for the first time. She is generous and welcoming. She even sat beside me.

showbiz blogger philippines
This blogger with the beautiful Ms. Sylvia Sanchez.

She promoted her upcoming web special, Sylviahera, which is the banner show for Casa Nieves TV. Casa Nieves TV is a channel that aims to promote positive values.

Arjo and Ria are fast making their names in the showbiz industry due to their good looks and acting prowess. They teased Sylvia, naunahan niya mga anak niya magka online travel and cooking show!

She also plugged her MMK episode Finding Nita, in which she switches roles. Whereas before, she was the forgetful mother, now, she is the daughter to the character of Boots Anson-Roa, who has Alzheimer's. It will be aired this Saturday, December 22, on ABS-CBN.

Sylviahera tells the story of Josette Campo, a simple girl from the town of Nasipit, Agusan Del Norte, who became known as the actress Sylvia Sanchez. Hers was a rags to riches fairy tale. She has been honest that her early life saw her family battle with poverty.

During her childhood, she used to swim and dive for seaweeds and sea urchins, and pick up suso (snails). Til she met her Prince Charming in Arturo Atayde, a man from a traditional Spanish family.

Her children were fortunate enough to be born to a comfortable life, so she makes it her mission to balance their lives and mindset by bringing them back to her hometown in Mindanao to see the other side of life and instill in them morals.

entertainment blogger philippines

For values and "puso" was, after all, the only inheritance she got from her own mom. Lacking in material things, she witnessed how big her mother's heart was, even going to the point of giving away some of their ulam to the hungry neighbor who comes in to ask for food (which was, in the first place, barely enough to make their family of 6 kids full).

Sylviahera is a travel and cooking show with a generous sprinkling of life lessons to be aired on Youtube channel, Casa Nieves TV. Prodded why not on TV, Direk replied that the advantage of going social media is that there is no strict timeslot, it is accessible by anyone, at any time, and exists forever til there is Internet (or at least til taken down).

director, Dante Nico Garcia

The attack on this is much like a reality show, wherein you will see the reactions are very natural. This is real life, spontaneous and impromptu, not scripted.

Every month, they will be streaming 1 main body and 8 sub-contents. Pilot is on December 25, 2018, 12:01 AM. Then every Tuesday and Friday night are its supplementary- related to the main episode, like trivia, hacks, recipes, etc.

josette campo, filipina actress sylvia sanchez,

We watched a clip of Sylviahera and I can see that it looks very promising, interesting, and finely crafted. The scenes are breath taking. More than inspiration, there are tangible lessons to be taken.

Sylviahera, youtube, Casa Nieves TV, december 25,

They envision homemakers and OFWs, especially, will love it for it gives useful tips and recipes that are easily imitable even with only a one burner stove! But, Sylvia maintains that she is not a teacher who teaches cooking! Despite her culinary certification, she insists that she is only sharing!

She has a creative cooking style; she can invent dishes, and when she tastes something delicious in a restaurant, she tries to re-create it.

Please watch the preview here:

...Sylvia built a box (trolley) that transforms into a one-burner kitchen, and decides to embark into a culinary adventure...

Sylviahera is still on final editing stage, but will have a definite playdate this Christmas. So after Noche Buena, let's all watch Sylviahera with our loved ones. :)

UHC and The Need for A Higher Tobacco Tax

I grew up around cigarettes yet I have never puffed or smoked in my life. Erm, please allow this blogger to expound.

UHC and The Need for Added Tobacco Tax

My mom runs a sari-sari store and sometimes I am the bantay. Little kids my age would be ordered by their parents to buy cigars and light 'em up too. I would also sometimes see my parents smoke when they would go to the toilet. But it was infrequent, my folks were not addicted to it.

Then when I worked as a medrep almost all of my teammates were smoking. Poor me and another non-smoker had to endure their disgusting puffs during meetings.

Now WHY did I not try smoking?

Well, aside from the fact that I know its numerous health hazards, I am kuripot and I am aware it has potential for causing addiction (sayang pera). But more so, it was because  there was a massive Yosi Kadiri campaign with the horrible mascot (from DOH, I think) during my teen years. And the drive surely gave an impression that it is the vice of choice for tambays and other lowlifes. So there... it does not seem appealing to me.

November 29, 2018, I attended Smoke Free Philippines' Raise Tobacco Tax Bloggers Party held at 55 Events Place in Quezon City.
New slogan Buwis Para sa Buhay Raise Tobacco Tax for UHC

But we cannot blame the older era because during their formative years, cigars were being marketed as glamorous. They see it everywhere, in movies, commercials, etc.

Earlier this year, I met an elderly woman during a marriage encounter. She has been in and out of the hospital, nearly died, because of her smoking several packs. And guess what? I had to sorta not breathe while talking to her as she was still puffing a cigar. Her addiction was that much.

Last November 29, 2018, I attended Smoke Free Philippines' Raise Tobacco Tax Bloggers Party held at 55 Events Place in Quezon City.

The following are but a few of the useful slides from the event. We indeed learned a lot and it was an eye opener...

A video was shown of Stanley Chi interviewing Solita 'Mareng Winnie' Monsod.

UHC or Universal Health Care is very important and helpful especially for the poor, since it makes all the hospital care and acquiring medicine processes easier and streamlined, and also reaches out to the far out provinces. This system gives health care access and financial protection to everyone! That was what I understood.

Tobacco Tax and You by Antonio L. Dans, MD, MSc UP College of Medicine

There were census that showed that poorer people are more likely to smoke than wealthy people. In fact, in all of Asia, Philippines ranks one of the highest in terms of smoking prevalence!

There were also studies that prove that smoking addicts started from a young age! So it makes sense to make cigarette pricing prohibitive. Make kids and teens not afford cigarette anymore because of the higher tax.

A lot of health risks... yet why still smoke?

It has been said that higher tobacco tax will affect our Pinoy farmers, but the group claims that it is far from the truth. During the dry season, they plant tobacco, while during the wet, rice. Also, government should propagate alternative livelihood and another utilization for tobacco aside from use for cigarettes.

Higher tobacco tax is not only for revenue (for use in government projects), but to shape behavior especially for health. For the benefit of us and our loved ones, there should come a change in the environment, so the default lifestyle is the healthy lifestyle!

Cigarette smoking has so many negative implication - diseases, deaths, economic. Now that we know relevant information, we can hopefully side with the good! #RaiseTobaccoTax4UHC  Thanks for reading! :)

Pisceanrat Reviews Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask Triplex Exfoliating

Hello po! As an Althea Angel, I was lucky to receive a treat as Althea Korea generously sent to me for review their new concoction, the Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask. It's touted to be your ideal daily triple care!

althea milk peel review pisceanrat
Just a background, the intake of dairy milk almost cost me my life as a baby. You see, after I was fed infant formula, I got hospitalized. It became apparent I was lactose intolerant. Luckily my aunt donated some of her milk to me as she also had just given birth to my cousin. And as a grown up, whenever I drank dairy milk, I would have mucus in the form of pimples and phlegm. So soya milk is better for me.

But when it comes to TOPICAL application, milk is all good. All its benefits when applied to the skin is well recorded in history. For thousands of years, legendary beauties and royalties use milk. Even Cleopatra is said to bathe in milk.

beauty blog philippines, pet blog philippines,
Cats love milk :) Oops she is not drinking my milk mask,  just the milk for cereal!

Now Althea comes up with Milk in the form of bubble mask. I have always been curious about bubble masks since I saw another Korean brand. Before, we only have gel or cream masks that when dried are peeled off, sponged/wiped off or rinsed off, but now masks also bubble up, which looks real exciting and cool!

How the fine bubbles look like.

althea milk peel cream
It is like a froth, like a whipped cream. I burst the bubbles and the white cream remained.

It has a soft clay-like texture that bubbles up when massaged on damp skin to deeply cleanse the pores.
But even if you didn't massage it, it bubbles by itself within 1 minute. It bubbles up faster when it was spread thinly.

I personally use this only at night, about 2x or 3x a week, for a month now. So far, no rashes or allergy.
