Fertility Awareness 2015: Helping Build Families
Hello po!
August is Fertility Awareness Month! Merck Serono, the World Leader in Fertility Treatment, has launched a campaign and for years now, been giving Filipino couples who are trying to conceive support thru seminars and information dissemination.
Yesterday, August 5, 2015, at the Crowne Plaza (near Robinsons Galleria Ortigas), Merck and the Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (PSREI) announced a series of awareness-building initiatives to foster greater understanding of infertility among Filipinos. The theme for this year is #helpingbuildfamilies.
Did you know that an estimated 1 in 10 Filipinos are infertile? A Merck-commissioned study by Synovate reveals that a vast majority of them will struggle in silence, due in part to the shame associated with the infertility, but mainly because many couples don't understand this condition.
As Dr. Gio Barangan, Medical Director, Merck Philippines says, “With the observance of Fertility Awareness Month, Merck, together with PSREI aim to help childless Filipino couples to learn more about their condition and to realize that there are solutions to the challenge that they face. It is also an opportunity for them to meet couples who were successful in their fertility treatment, so that they can gain confidence in the country’s pool of fertility experts and treatment facilities and thereby remain hopeful in starting a family.”
Understanding Infertility- a disease, is common, and is a two-sided issue;
Treatment Options- Ovulation Induction, Follicle Monitoring (FM), Timed Intercourse, Artificial Insemination, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The doctors who gave us more information on infertility and who you will meet at the Fertility Awareness 2015 seminar are Dr. Anthony Marc B. Ancheta and Dr. Rudie Frederick B. Mendiola.
I would like to share this adage by Dr. Ancheta for couples who are jumping from one doctor to another. He said it is like a mayonnaise jar effect. Person A did not open the closed jar. B can not unstuck the jar lid. C also found it hard. But D was able to finally open the jar! Translated thus: the tests, procedures, operations, medicines prescribed by the other different doctors all have helped contribute to a couple's finally being successful in getting pregnant. So it is really important for patients to be honest and also keep/save their files and documents so if they have a new doctor, he/she knows what is best to do next.
The earlier couples seek treatment, the better it is because the older they get, the less chance to become pregnant, (something to do with the number of woman's eggs), plus increased likelihood of miscarriage! But of course, the man needs to be checked too! So don't delay, seek a specialist now! PSREI has 107 active members and is on its 21st year.
With the press:

This is a real life couple who shared their story. They have been trying to conceive (TTC) for 2 years, the woman has Endometriosis and blocked Fallopian tubes. With the help of IVF, they were able to get pregnant!

That day's painting lessons from Sip & Gogh was therapeutic, would have been more enjoyable in a quiet room/tranquil setting.
