A Drop of HIV+ Would You Move Away From It?
Last February 15, 2016, we joined in an advocacy blogcon by Pedal for HIV and GIV- the Tour de Pilipinas.
The highlight of the event is the HIV-Positive poster, which has a drop of HIV-positive blood.
The HIV posters were originally developed by Grupo de Incentivo a Vida (GIV), a non-government organization based in Brazil. The HIV-Positive Poster campaign has won international awards such as the Bronze Lion at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival – Press Category. The poster was first released in Asia (in the Philippines).
The poster' message is that you can't get it from touching the poster or a mere casual contact with PLHIV (people living with HIV), stating "You contract HIV by having unprotected sex, sharing needles and syringes with infected blood."
A sponsor of them is Premiere condom, but this I wish to say- simply ABSTAIN. No judgment here. But that is simply the BEST way not to get infected with the disease, which still has no cure up to now.
Another route of the infection is the perinatal or mother-to-child transmission of HIV, which is really dreadful. The HIV affected woman spreads the virus to her child during pregnancy, childbirth (labor and delivery), or breastfeeding (through breast milk).
The founder of Pedal for HIV, Faustine Luell T. Angeles Jr., will be travelling to key sites together with two representatives from GIV – Life Support Group.
Tour de Pilipinas aims to:
• Increase visibility of the HIV Positive Poster
• Provide information on HIV
• Empower the youth to became advocates
• Reduce HIV stigma and discrimination

HIV awareness is something that everyone, Pinoys especially, should be proactive about. After all, The HIV epidemic in the Philippines has been described as alarming and “explosive”, with the fastest rate of increase in NEW cases of the infection globally.
