Foodie Review: Unicorn Tea & Bistro
Hello po! Besh, unicorns and mermaids are the whimsical trends of these days. That is why when I heard about Unicorn Tea & Bistro, it piqued my curiosity.
First of all, Unicorn Tea and Bistro is not your pastel, cutesy cafe with stuffed toys, but it is something that is just a tad more serious. But like the mythical creature it was named after, it is something special and hard to find.
I visited last May May 27, 2018.
The bistro offers free Wi-Fi and there is parking space in front. It is quiet and cozy, and I find the place very much ideal for studying or for romantic dates.
The owner is an Executive Chef/ Pastry Chef, hence the very appetizing presentation of the food.
Unicorn Tea and Bistro is a relatively new player, formally opening its doors just last April.
MENU
The wide selection of cakes and pastries is a nice accompaniment to their assortment of hot and cold
beverages. There are macarons, food for the gods, shepherd's pie, Danish bread, etc.
The bistro's slogan- Their coffee keeps you awake, but Unicorn's tea keeps you dreaming! Serving the world's most luxurious teas to the Philippines.
The 1872 Clipper Tea Co Historical Blend of Taste and Tea. Black tea, Green tea, Tisanes (Herbal tea), Oolong Tea. Take a pick from the flavors- Anti-stress, Fruitopia, Peace of Mind, Healing Garden, etc.
Now let us feast on some of the mouthwatering delicacies Unicorn Tea and Bistro has to offer.
FOOD
Aglio Olio Php 180
This beloved pasta dish has just the right combination of flavors- not too salty or sour, there is no feeling of being shortchanged because the shrimp is plentiful. Has sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and Parmesan cheese.
Fish and Chips Php 185
May I just say that the dip is wonderful (it was made from scratch, by the way), it's very creamy and makes the big beer battered dory fish fillet and crispy coated or twister fries so much more delicious.
Mr. Egg Benedict loves Waffles Php 150
Great for the meatlovers! At first I assumed it was chorizo and ham, but reading the menu description, it turns out to be Chinese sausage and bacon crumble! Also includes 2 pc waffles, egg (well cooked, the yolk does not flow), and wilted spinach topped with hollandaise sauce.
Bacon S'mores Php 170
This creation is truly sweet like a dessert, buttermilk waffle, torched marshmallow, candied bacon, Hershey piece, Graham, cherry on top of vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzle.
Cheesecake
It is not the usual triangle slice but this was presented sort of like a cupcake. But really, this is no mamon but a cheesecake through and through. Creamy, decadent cheesecake with crust underneath and cherry or blueberry topping. The fact that it's served on exquisite glass +10 bonus points!
DRINKS
We had frappes in the flavors of Green Tea Matcha (with floral, fragrant, undertones),
and Black Tea Caramel (has a fine brewed tea distinction).
Now HIGHLY RECOMMENDED is their hot tea which was served very nicely, serving size in solo or sharing. We chose Apple Teani (you can see the luxury loose leaf tea used and its temperature is maintained by a tealight candle, I can compare it to a very expensive teahouse that we had visited).
Because of the hot tea's astringency, there are some people who consider it a palate cleanser or a perfect ending to a full or heavy meal- sort of to help digest or to melt away the sharp tastes.
Unicorn Tea and Bistro is located at the Ground floor of the Capital Towers, E Rodriguez Sr. Ave., Quezon City, Philippines. (landmark: beside National Bookstore, in front of Trinity University of Asia, walking distance from Puregold QI, St Lukes, National Children's Hospital).
