A Win for Haresco is a Victory for Aklan!
Being a Manila girl all my life, it had always been a dream of mine to be able to visit Boracay. And I got to tick that off my bucket list a few years ago.
I was able to enjoy the world-famous beach known for its powdery white sand and tranquil turquoise waters not once, but twice. First in a vacation and second after a family gathering in Capiz. Both happened just a few years ago.
I would not call it like a virgin island as there was indeed many tourists and commercial establishments were already near the shoreline. There's a lot of activities and fun things to do in the island. And nightlife of course was very much alive and a spectacle to witness.
But I also noticed that there was a lot of green algae and the waters were not as pure as I imagined it would be. They say blame it on the month, the season.
Fast forward, we found out that there were indeed hotels with 43 illegal underground lines pumping all their sewer waste onto our beloved beach. As Pinoys, we were naturally enraged!
Thankfully, there was a crackdown on the establishments that have been detrimental to the pristine beauty of Boracay! The island was for a while, closed down for a rehabilitation of sorts, but now it is open to the public again!
When I first met him during the campaign period, I did not really know much about Cong. Teodorico Nonong Haresco Jr. But during his speech, he gained my trust and I decided I'd stand with him as I saw that he was fully supportive of the government and DENR Sec. Cimatu. He was all for Boracay regaining its eco-wellness.
Us bloggers and members of traditional media recently attended Rep. Nonong Haresco's Victory Thanksgiving Party. He had a big win over his opponent. I heaved a sigh of relief as it means preserving Boracay's glory as one of the world's best beaches!
He talked about his vision for Aklan and his dreams for Aklanons- Kabuhayan, Imprastraktura, Edukasyon, Kabuhayan! His slogan is Panalo Tayo kay Haresco Subok na Natin To! As he was the Representative before (authored several House Resolutions and Bills then), and now he won in his re-run for public office.
Haresco discussed that Media has a voice in him in the House of Representatives.
He is willing to help in MEDICAL needs (Heart Center, Kidney Center, PGH). Regarding EDUCATION, he plans on giving scholarships to deserving students and they can enroll in La Salle, Ateneo, UP, etc. With INFRASTRUCTURE, he will join the President in the Build Build Build program especially as Boracay has already been adding up to Php 52-M in the national coffers. Finally, LIVELIHOOD projects to be awarded to micro-entrepreneurs in Aklan.
He welcomes those planning to retire in Aklan as it has the best peace and order situation in Region VI and is only about 20 minutes away from Manila.
Haresco is also proposing farming schools for organic goods (chickens, eggs, veggies) to supply Boracay with.
Important to note is that Haresco is the only politician who is against the building of a bridge from the mainland to Boracay. He deems that it will be utterly disastrous! Imagine double decked tourist buses, tractors, trailers, passing by the narrow streets of the small island which will cause beach goers to be troubled by the smoke pollution and traffic. Even terrorists may conveniently cross it and cause bombings! So for him, that bridge will cause so many problems and is a no-no. He wills only the best for Boracay.
With regards to underground sewerage system, he also shares that he is on it and when he was Congressman before, he copied the concept from Roman Engineering. He also mentioned a big Corporation was finally urged to comply with their commitment to the contract (which they failed to fulfill some 13 years ago).
He also vocally admires President Duterte's will power as the law has been enforced to the letter. Buildings that break the code has been eradicated.
He also welcomes non-Aklanons to open businesses there as long as they register so they can contribute their productivity and fulfill civic responsibility, and it will be mutual and reciprocal. There are already many rags to riches success stories there!
Regarding renewable energy, Haresco plans to build another windmill farm. He, in fact, donated 3,000 sqm. to Metrobank. The attractions are picturesque and also used for pre-nuptial pictorials.

I feel that because of his achievements, he is highly qualified and he has the true heart for the welfare of Aklan as he is a native, a proud Ilonggo, hailing from the Tumbocon Family of Ibajay, Aklan, with a heart to serve the people and maintain the dignity of Boracay. #PanaloTayoKayHaresco #LarawanAtKape
