Save Our Wildlife! Save Juan Pawikan!
Hello po! Last October 8, 2015, I got to attend the launching of the children's book The Legend of Juan Pawikan and the 7,107 Islands from Mona Lisa Publications, written by award-winning author Celine Beatrice Fabie and illustrated by Benjor Catindig, held in Mabuhay Restop in Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The release is timely with the celebration of World Animal Day and World Habitat Day, and is part of a campaign called #SavingJuanPawikan which aims to “save every Juan, one pawikan at a time” by educating about marine life and inspiring ocean conservation among children.
So glad to be able to visit Mabuhay Restop (Travel, Cafe, Museum). The art pieces, decors, and music is truly local/native. Nakaka- Proudly Filipino!
Saving Juan Pawikan merchandise (books and stickers).
Goods from Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines.
Talks on habitat awareness from environmentalists and marine wildlife experts:
We must not destroy the precious living creatures, with its dwindling numbers. There are resins that can be made, looks the same as real corals, star fish or turtle shell. Promote sustainable and profitable alternatives!
Tackling the life cycle, and also how critically endangered (next is EXTINCTION) some turtle species are. Stop polluting our waters, destroying their natural habitat, and poaching (for turtle meat or shell as decoration)!
There was also a film showing of Team Labyrinth's Nico and the Turtle.
Book reading of The Legend of Juan Pawikan by Winston Cabiles, Jr. from The Voice Kids.
Winners of The Legend of Juan Pawikan and the 7,107 Islands Facebook contest. Pat, a volunteer for PAWS and MWWP, and Rome, who promoted that there will be a Fun Run for the Sea Turtles in Tiwi, Albay on October 24. Registration is FREE, buy the official tech shirt for just Php 250.
The author thanks her friends.
To cap off the evening, a splendid song number from Celine (who is also with The Ryan Cayabyab Singers), and actor Andy Bais.
Being an animal lover/ animal blogger, I am happy to have witnessed this event.
There will be a turtle costume party for kids to promote awareness, on October 31, 3 P.M., at Powerbooks Greenbelt.
