Tambayan 101- Mastering the Fine Art of Making Tambay
"Good morning!" chirped the guy at the entrance as I went inside Tambayan 101. I could not believe my eyes as I took in the surroundings. Young adults in tables eating, drinking and talking and double deck beds. Double deck beds?! Yes, I believe they are the first to have this kind of concept, hence the moniker is very apt.
Tambayan 101, located in 976 Don Ysidoro Street, Malate, Manila (after Kapitan Tikong Street, and near De La Salle College of St. Benilde), is just that literally. Envisioned as a chill out or hang out place for students of nearby schools as they await their next class during their vacant period, or as a place to wind down after the last class. After all, the place used to be a dormitory.
We were first toured into the second and third floor.
The rooms have different themes and each room can accommodate a number of people.
There are hot and cold showers inside the room.
Free Wi-Fi, and HD movies.
To prevent any malicious incident and maintain a wholesome appeal, the doors have a glass so people can peek inside.
Rate is Php 90/person/hour.
Then like a real barkada does, we sampled and shared their bar chow, which were also very good!
Salami and cheeseburger. Can give fastfood burgers a run for their money.
Carne franks- Better than the ones in convenience stores.
Pastrami- not your usual boring burger. This deli is highly recommended.
Clubhouse and BLT. When you want something lighter than burgers.
Of course, these are my favorite among those they served because I have a sweet tooth.
Waffles in strawberry, chocolate and bacon!
Perfectly chill beverage in mason jars!
Cafe latte, Ghirardelli hot cocoa (my fave), Strawberry cooler smoothie.
Buffalo wings.
With jalapenos, cheese, salsa, meat, the nachos are huge! Can be shared among 4 people.
French fries is perfect with beer (which they offer in promo buckets too)! Available in sour cream, barbecue and cheese flavor.
So happy that they have onion rings, which is my preference over french fries! This picture ain't the full size of the onion rings. This is bawas na as I went outside and my companions already helped themselves to this.
Tambayan 101 also has "freedom walls" or rather "freedom columns" where you can write your message to your crush or satisfy your inner vandal. Open Mondays to Saturdays, 10 AM to 9 PM.

As a student, I loved to eat in different restaurants during lunch. But I admit, my tambayan was the library. However, with this kind of hang out, I am sure it will attract not only students, but people of different ages and occupations! How about you? Care to share your tambayan during school days?
