How to Know If your Home is in Fault Line
Hello po! We Pinoys had the recent terror with the strong, long and frequent earthquakes we experienced! Add to that, our Archipelago is situated at the Pacific Ring of Fire, hence the high volcanic and seismic activity! Now, more than ever, talks are being made about preparing for THE BIG ONE!
These tremors made me nervous these days. I remember the strong quake, December 1999, when we are about to go towards the New Millennium Year 2000.
Here are some tips for precaution and to ensure our safety:
These tremors made me nervous these days. I remember the strong quake, December 1999, when we are about to go towards the New Millennium Year 2000.
Here are some tips for precaution and to ensure our safety:
- Pray! Our hotline to God is most important, only He can spare us of this Natural Calamity.
- Stock up on food and drinks. Have the powerbanks, flashlights etc. charged!
- Have a go to bag ready. One full of basics/ essentials that you just grab and then run for the door!
- Must have presence of mind and not panic. Remember - Drop, Cover, Hold On!
- Meet with the rest of the family or workmates about what to do when disaster strikes. Is it safer inside, or do you leave? And if so, where is the meeting place?
- Check the structure of the house/ building. Is it still sound or needs repairs, rebuilding?
- Check out the app THE PHIVOLCS FAULTFINDER BY JOEL BANDIBAS (available in Google Play Store for Android users) to know if your abode is resting in the fault line or how far it is. It is a mighty useful app to download!*
*For official hazards assessment, consult PHIVOLCS directly.
Also, may I add, don't ever leave your pets behind, bring them with you! They are members of the family! And if worse comes to worst, at least do not cage them in or tie them up. They have better chances of escaping with survival instincts if let loose in a very urgent situation.
Be informed and be safe frens! Thanks for reading! :)
