Market Leader SkinWhite Launches Movement Embracing Beauty in All Colors
Hello po! I have always held my stance that a person's skin color does not determine beauty. For we should celebrate diversity, uniqueness and embrace every one. That being said, I am surprised and at the same time very happy with the timely and relevant campaign launched by none other than the Philippines' leading skin lightening brand, Skin White!
Last March 27, 2019, I strutted down the exclusive Manila House Private Members Club at upscale BGC for the SkinWhite event.
Curious as a cat I was, for this was kept under wraps for a while. Imagine how people would react! But the ushering of Millennial period proved to be a new era where people are woke, rallying for purpose, for acceptance. And kudos to the brand for their sensitivity and keeping up with the changing times!
Indeed, Splash had always been a trailblazer. Remember 25 years ago, they started the whitening craze, and then Multinationals followed suit.
This Filipino Corporation had always been at the forefront of providing the consumers' needs and wants, serving them with options so they can have personal control over their beauty whichever way they wish to.
Maintaining or changing skin color also is not equivalent to one's being patriotic for we have many ways to show our love for country. Skin color is all a matter of personal choices.
One would wonder why a skin whitening brand such as SkinWhite would dare to say that dark skin is beautiful. “It’s all about choice”, says Rachelle D. Layda, Category Head- Whitening, of Splash Corporation. “SkinWhite is a brand that empowers women to choose. A choice to define their own standard of beauty. If you choose to have dark skin, you are beautiful. If you choose to have white skin, you are just as beautiful. The choice is yours, and SkinWhite respects that choice”.
This inclusivity is refreshing and speak volumes, especially at a time when shaming and bullying is prevalent across social media. Bashers and haters abound online with no agenda but to shame in all forms and ways – body-shaming, hair-shaming, race-shaming, gender-shaming, and yes, also skin-shaming. “This is precisely the stigma that we wish to change. Skin color should not be about one being better than the other”, adds Pam Sulit, Splash Corporation’s VP for Marketing.
“White and dark are both beautiful.” confirms Rachel Villanueva, Creative Director of Petch & Partners, the creative agency that created this campaign for SkinWhite. She continues, “It’s about time that dark skin and white skin get the same adoration and acknowledgment.”
Woah! I love my bronzed version! But I find it a tad challenging to attain for I was born with white skin owing to my Chinese/ Spanish roots. When I go to the beach, I have to endure burning and redness first, then the peeling, before I can really get tanned. But then, needless to say, I get freckles and sun damage too. So, gotta be protected!
