Everything to Know Before Getting a Diode Laser
Hello po!!! It was my first time to try Blushing Beauty by SkinStation Diode Laser- it is touted as the Gold Standard when it comes to hair removal!
I have tried IPL in the underarms in about 3 other places (both in a high-end clinic and low-end spa) at 1 session each, and there was no difference- unwanted hair still grew.
With IPL I remember it was very fast because it is per "shot", but with diode, I say it is similar to when I had RF (to dissolve fat) for the tummy, a gel is applied and the tool is rubbed round and round the area. But unlike RF, there is NO screeching sound in the ears with diode.
I took advantage of their promo. The receptionist here in Blushing Beauty SM North Edsa branch said that the 4 sessions for Php 2,500 sale is only "for maintenance" as the recommended is 8 sessions which is also on deal for just Php 5,000.
But I heard some people say mga 4 sessions lang and their hair is not growing anymore (but it depends on your hormones or skin chemistry chuchu ha) so I stuck with the 4 sessions. Anyway, let's see if I still need additional sessions after this package- I have an SM Advantage card naman for 50% discount, Hoho!
So this is what happens (the procedure) as far as I can remember:
*You will sign a waiver in the reception area then off ya go to the room.
1. Change into bathrobe.. The diode attendant will take pictures of your hairy underarms for documentation.
2. Eyes are covered with tissue and goggle.
3. She will cleanse the skin and shave your pits. Don't worry disposable naman daw yung razor (it hasn't been used in a previous client) so no risk of contracting transmittable diseases .
4. She will apply a cold gel (parang ultrasound gel).
5. Diode laser proper which lasts around 15 to 20 minutes.
6. During and after the process, she advises what to expect, the do's and don'ts (i.e., do not wet for 8 hours, you can use deo on the 4th day, never shave or wax in between diode sessions, return for next session not earlier than 6 weeks, no need for yearly maintenance shots if there was no regrowth at all after the package was done, a minor side effect can be redness, etc)
Is it really painless???
Well, I've been waxing for more than a year I think, whereas before I only shave. So my pain tolerance in that region is a bit high. Thanks to the cold gel, which kind of acts to numb or lessen any discomfort, the diode laser was relatively painless. BUT the longer it is being rubbed and when the coolness of the gel goes away, I can already feel a HOT sensation (she says parang pitik daw but for me I don't feel pitik, just hot). She immediately stops when I say it's hot. So simple- stop (when hot) and go lang (add more gel).
My visit was satisfactory. I like the:
1. Uber dainty and immaculate facilities, pretty decor.
2. Free Wi-Fi.
3. Clean, fragrant restroom so no need to go outside.
4. Background music played is like that from a musicbox, lakas maka-bagets.
5. Since I am also a shy person, I appreciate that Blushing Beauty's rooms are PRIVATE. So if you are particular of privacy and not very fond of lying down next to strangers and madaan-daanan lang, SkinStation is highly recommended.
6. My attendant was a nurse, so if you prefer professionals, she says that in Dermax, all their aestheticians are RNs.
7. My laser technician is knowledgeable, courteous and polite. May kusa sya. She immediately covered my bare legs without the need for me to ask since the place is cool and after the treatment, she offered water or tea.
7. The card given after the treatment allows you convenience to have your next session done at ANY branch of Dermax/ Blushing Beauty/ SkinStation (these 3 are sister companies but caters to different age groups).
8. When you settle the bill at the counter, the receptionist will inform you the date of the next session (December 26 in this case) and give the O.R. (receipt) which says a lot about the integrity of the company.
I also bought this after laser cream (Php 220) since I was advised to use it 2x a day for 3 days as an after care. This is not a hair retardant, but to address any redness or inflammation.
Tips:
Best to call for appointment (I came on a Monday afternoon, which is usually a slow day, but there were other clients).
Do some research before undergoing this and do not be afraid to ask questions.
Strict compliance with their instructions for the best experience.
Take advantage of the FREE consultation with their in-house doctor. I inquired with Dra. Missy about my concerns on diode and she expounded on the subject well.
I am so looking forward to saying hasta la vista baby to my UA hair. The chicken skin that was caused by years of shaving and waxing shall be a thing of the past. No more hassle. I can wear my sleeveless tops with confidence. Yahoo!
As of this writing, it has been a couple of days from my session and I already saw some regrowth which they say is mabilis malalagas. So yeah, I will be editing this blog on my next sessions. Thanks and see you again here!
UPDATE:
It has been more than 3 weeks. Some hair stops growing at 1 mm. And yes, everytime I would look at my pits it seems that some hair that was there yesterday is gone today. Though I did not see it as it was falling off, it is safe to say that they were coming off on their own. Truly amazing!
It has been 6 weeks since my first diode session. Only a few hair grew back (I mean not as numerous and thick as before) but hair are longer than the first weeks, and strands are thinner! Diode is really 1000x more effective than IPL since it targets the roots! This is now my second session, December 28. Of the 1,500 shots per pit, I hardly felt any pain this time.

My pits after the diode laser. Maputi naman di ba? I've been using AxiLight serum the past days. Aside from the unwanted hair, my dilemma is chicken skin caused by years of shaving.
LIST OF REQUIREMENTS BEFORE HAVING DIODE AND OTHER INFO:
PRE and POST-CARE instructions:
BEFORE YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL
• Do not shave area to be treated three (3) to five (5)days before your appointment.
• Do not pluck, wax or use a depilatory in the areas you wish to treat four(4) weeks prior to your treatment.
• Avoid any unnecessary UV exposure to the areas to be treated four (4) weeks prior to treatment.
• Avoid self-tanning products four (4) weeks prior to treatment.
• Do not apply Retinol/ Retinoic acid-containing creams/lotions one (1) week before your Diode laser treatment.
• Stop application of NanoWhite Intensive underarm cream with Retinol at least one (1) week before your Diode laser treatment. You may continue to apply Nanowhite cream without Retinol.
• No peeling agents or diamond peel one (1) week before the procedure
AFTER YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL
• Some redness in the treated area may occur after your treatment. Apply Post Laser cream or Infladerm cream twice daily for 3-5 days. If the redness does not subside in a few hours, please call the clinic at once.
• Do not wash the treated area for six (6) to eight (8) hours.
• Avoid applying exfoliants (glycolics, retinoids, etc.) to the treated area for seven (7) days.
• Keep area clean and wash gently. Do not use hot water. Do not use sauna.
• Apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher to exposed treated area for at least six (6) weeks.
• Do not use deodorant or antiperspirant for 12 hours after your Diode treatment.
• Do not apply Retinol/ Retinoic acid-containing creams/lotions for one (1) week after your Diode laser treatment.
• You may apply Axilight serum and Nanowhite whitening cream after 3 days from your Diode laser treatment, and Nanowhite intensive whitening cream with retinol one (1) week after your Diode laser treatment.
• Expect hair to grow immediately after the treatment. This is normal. After two (2) weeks, most of the hair will have no resistance. Do not pluck or wax the hair which still has resistance.
• Keep treated areas clean.
• For face and body, wash gently with DERMAX SoGentle Gel Cleansers for at least two weeks.
• For brazilian and bikini line, wash gently with DERMAX SkinPrep Cleansers for at least two weeks.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL CONTRAINDICATIONS
You should not receive this service if:
• You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• You have a history of herpes simplex virus in the area to be treated.
• You have tattoos in the area or near the area to be treated.
• You have taken Accutane in the last six (6) months. This medication can make your skin sensitive.

My UA 6 weeks after 1st diode, and right before the 2nd session. Fewer hair regrowth and finer strands.

Hello Miss Denise..wait ko mag update ka sa blog na to after macomplete ung session..interested ako sa kung talagang d n talaga tutubo yung hair??may upper lip hair kz ako (bigote)..pero konti lang..napofocus tingin ko dito pag nagsasalamin ako..dream ko matanggal..pero natatakot ako itry.Di ko pinapakialaman like d.i.y wax kz baka kumapal eh lalo ako magmukang lalaki 😄 Dumating sa point na nagrresearch talaga ko pero natatakot nman ako subukan.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms Che! Oo nga excited na rin ako sa mangyayari pero sa dec 26 pa ang balik ko- 6 weeks kasi ang interval! Nakakahiya at dyahe talaga pag me bigote sa girls kahit manipis pa, medyo panira nga yan, tyaga at dalasan lang muna sa pagtanggal. Pag okay ito, pa diode ka na din :)

hello dear, yes bumili ako ng post laser cream. pero parang soothing or anti irritant lang siya kasi sensitive pa pits after laser... ang diode nila sobrang effective, tapos na second session ko and definitely mas kumonti mas numipis at iksi ang regrowth. hindi ko siya pwede ikumpara sa mga na try kong ipl before. yung ipl walang effect sa kin, pero diode kahit first session bongga nia.
