Join Red Cross Million Volunteer Run

Hello po! Many times on my way home on moonlit evenings riding a bus, I notice this building of Philippine Red Cross Tower in 37 EDSA cor Boni Ave., Mandaluyong City.

Does it also catch your attention when you pass by? They have transferred in this modern building with state of the art facilities on the first day of June this year.

I didn't expect that one day I would be invited here and enter the premises as a blogger.

On that day, October 24, we were "bombarded" with an influx of information that this blog may need to have a mini-series if I write it all down haha! But the main program/projects revolve on- Safety Services, Volunteer Services, Haiyan, MVR 3 and OPCEN.

Red Cross Services include Safety Services, Social Services, Health Services, Blood Services and Disaster Management Services.

Here is Mr. Benjo Bacani, national field representative from PRC Safety Department, discussing Safety Services, which is tasked with a nationwide educational campaign to ensure the health and safety of the Filipino people.

Of course, I would never miss having a photo op with Chairman Gordon whom I admire and respect so much. He is an action man, hardworking, selfless (did you know that he is PRC's biggest volunteer and is not even receiving payment?), brilliant, and with excellent foresight or vision for the future. We definitely need a man of his caliber especially that the Philippines is disaster prone- being in the Pacific Ring of Fire and Typhoon Belt!

I was also very surprised to know that Red cross receives NIL (read: ZERO) funds from the government!!! If they will receive money from the government then they will have to support the incumbent official, and that is a no-no since Red cross is IMPARTIAL and unbiased!!! Red Cross thrives with some fund generating sources (like first aider weekly training),  thru donations and volunteers!

Here is the OPCEN. See the digital clock at the back, it indicates time left before MVR.

Philippine Red Cross Operations Center

OPCEN is the central nervous system. The repository of PRC's database and command center, important as they are continuously monitoring and coordinating in this hub.

The MVR 3 card serves as a keepsake and also includes the runner's personal info. The IFRC backs claim that he/she participated in the BIGGEST humanity run.
